I’m Not Giving Money to My Late Husband’s Affair Child

Dealing with betrayal, inheritance, and responsibility can be really tough. This is the situation for a woman who, after losing her husband, is facing an unexpected and painful problem.

She explained her story.

Her husband passed away almost three years ago, leaving her to raise their 8-year-old child alone. Since his death, she discovered things about him that would have ended their marriage if he were still alive.

About six weeks ago, someone came to her with a court order for her husband to take a DNA test for paternity. She gave them his death certificate and sent them away.

Not long after, a woman showed up at her door with a child, claiming the child was her late husband’s son. She wasn’t sure if it was true, and honestly, she didn’t care. The child looked like him, but he was young enough that he must have been conceived right before her husband died.

She told the woman that her husband had passed away and showed her where he was buried. But the woman quickly started asking for “her half” of his belongings. The widow laughed and said that half of nothing is nothing, and she could have that.

Some people might see her as the bad person here because, while there was no estate, there were some assets that didn’t go through probate. One of these was a rental property given to them by her husband’s parents, which became hers when he died.

She sold the property and plans to use the money for her child’s college education. Legally, she is in the clear, as she has already spoken to her lawyer. While she feels bad for the child, her main concern is her own child.

People stood on her side.

  • “You were not a jerk. And for what it’s worth, that’s not a terribly uncommon scam for some reason. If you still have the papers, I’d look into if they were even legitimate.

  • “I would have said, ‘He died with a ton of debt. Let me get your info, so I can transfer half of it to you.’ She would be out of there so fast!

  • “You need to focus on your child and your finances. The property legally belongs to you, and there’s no proof your late husband was the father of the other child. Your priority is your own child’s future.
